“Once upon a time, an old Orthodox-Christian lady was living in Goreme district and she was very famous about her holy personality. She was every time positive and everyone who has some questions, they like to apply her for her positive advises. Her name was “Mati” and people called her Mati-ana, which means “Mother Mati” because she was kind hearted to everyone just like all mothers. Her big heart and her positive energy became so popular that people while they are going to visit this neighborhood, they respond to people who asked “Where are you going to?” as “I am going to Mati-ana” and then this name remains as a name of the district.”
