International Istanbul Music Festival (Jun

Classical music fans flock to
Istanbul for a music marathon
with the International Istanbul
Music Festival, first held in
1973. Featuring more than 500
artists, the event takes up
several historical venues,
including the Topkapi Palace.
Throughout the summer many other
Istanbul festivals incorporate
theatre, film and jazz as well
as several special projects that
run simultaneously. The Istanbul
Foundation for Culture and Arts
is responsible for this cultural
overload and has been recognised
with the Trophée Internationale

Festival (Jul

Uni-Rock is an open-air heavy
metal festival, attracting
40,000 party goers to Istanbul's
Kucukciftlik Park. Camp on site
and enjoy three full days of
quality live music from
internationally famous artists.
There are more than 30 acts
confirmed in 2010. These include
Cannibal Corpse, Nevermore,
Amorphis, Obituary, Necrophagist
and Dark Funeral.

Open Air Theatre, İstanbul
Modern and Cemal Resit Rey
Concert Hall.

Bosphorus Cross Continental (Jul
2011 (annual))
Bosphorus Cross Continental is
Istanbul's annual Asia-to-Europe
swimming, rowing and sailing
competition. Thousands of
Turkish and international
athletes aged from 14 to 71 take
part under the motto "everyone
needs sport". Visitors can also
enjoy water-skiing and jet-skiing
shows.
The swimming competition begins
in the ferry port of Kanlica on
the Black Sea, the Asian side of
Istanbul, and ends in Kuruçeþme
Cemil Park on the European side
- a total distance of 6.5km.
The rowing race takes place on a
1600-metre course stretching
from the Arnavutköy ferry port
to Kuruçeþme Cemil Park
bleachers, while the regattas
depart from the Kandilli ferry
port and end in Kuruçeþme Cemil
Park.

Rock'n Coke (Jul
2011 (annual))
Famous for bringing outstanding
local and international music
stars to Hezarfen Airport's
stage, Rock'n Coke guarantees
three days of non-stop party
action. This is Turkey's biggest
open-air music festival,
attracting more than 40,000 rock
fans.
The organisers set up a fully
equipped temporary Rock Town to
welcome over 30 performers on
stage and a stunning line-up of
DJs in the dance arena. Away
from the main stage, extra-curricular
activities include a fairground,
skateboarding, basketball,
zeppelin, superjump, tai-chi and
yoga.

Filmekimi is a film festival by
the Istanbul Foundation for

Beyoðlu Emek Movie Theatre. It

Gathering 154 artists, 41
projects and more then 50
performances, iDANS is
Istanbul's contemporary dance
and performance festival. The

Prix Jardin d'Europe is awarded

Driven by the theme of "cosmopolitanism",
iDANS 2010 examined the
relations between space, place
and environment, settlement and
exclusion and the changing
meanings of community and
